Year 1’s Christmas performance

The children have loved rehearsing for the Christmas performance this year. It has a Nativity theme and parts of the costumes were made in school.

Miss Calcroft and I really hope you enjoy watching it. The children were very enthusiastic and performed extremely well!

The Mince Pie Mice

EYFS and KS1 children were treated to a performance by Lichfield Garrick Theatre last week.

The performance was called “The Mince Pie Mice”.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience live theatre in school and we look forward to welcoming back Lichfield Garrick Theatre soon.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were very involved throughout.

Where’s my teddy?

This half term, our literacy text has been ‘Where’s my teddy?’ by Jez Alborough.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed reading the story, re-enacting the story and retelling the story using their own words.

Below are some of the children’s responses about the story from some work set on Seesaw.

I am very pleased with how well the children have engaged with the story and remembered all of the key events.

Children In Need 2021

Below are some pictures of Year 1 children taking part in the school charity game to raise money for Children In Need. The children had lots of fun and also took part in various Children In Need themed activities during the afternoon.

Harvest festival performance and Harvest bread!

I am one proud teacher, year 1 were absolutely brilliant in their Harvest festival performance.

They signed beautifully using Makaton and had massive smiles on their faces. The video of the performance will be available to watch on the blog after half term.

In the mean time, here are some pictures of the children rehearsing for the performance and enjoying their Harvest bread in the classroom.

Schools in the past

Our History topic this term focuses on what schools were like in the past.

Year 1 were set a task on Seesaw to speak to an older family member of theirs and learn about what school days were like for them.

Were they different or the same?

Here are some of the children’s responses from their family members.

Lucie’s family
Jenson’s family
Olivia’s family
Archie’s family

This term, our school value is ‘Belonging’.
Year 1 made a Rushall dragon shield out of different paper strips and drew figures of themselves holding hands around the shield.
It represents that all of Year 1 belong to Rushall Primary School.

It’s Autumn!

In Science, we are learning about the different seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. So far we have learned about the season of Autumn.

The pictures below show lots of different Autumn themed activities that we have took part in so far in the classroom. Some include deciding what clothes are appropriate to wear in Autumn when it starts to get colder.

We also went on a walk around the school playground and looked at the colours of the leaves to see if any had started changing colour or if any had fallen off the trees already.

So far, the children have shown a brilliant understanding about Autumn. One of our Harvest Festival songs is about seasons, which will help us even more with our learning.
